Camping at Umpqua Lighthouse

My friend Vincent was in town, and we went out to the coast to explore and camp near the ocean. In addition to a wonderful hike through forest, across dunes, around a lake, and along the coast, we built a fantastic fire with hand gathered wood.

Eagle Creek

Vincent and I went hiking along the famed Eagle Creek trail. Distracted by sidepaths and waterfalls, we didn’t make it very far along the path, but we made up for it in quality.

Wahkeena Falls Loop

These photos betray how bright and sunny a day it was. Seems hiking along the North face of a mountain in winter will leave you in shadow most of the day. Nonetheless, post-processing saved these from being terminally underexposed, and the day couldn’t have been better for a hike. The hike started at the base of Multnomah Falls, climbing Larch Mountain, and then coming down near Wahkeena Falls.

Silver Falls

It was a miserably wet January day, but I wanted adventure, so I went hiking anyway. Silver Falls is a great choice for a hike in the rain, as the trail takes you behind three very large falls, the spray from which makes your waterproof coat particularly worth bringing regardless of the weather. These photos are a little washed out and dark, and the contrast leaves a little for me to desire due to the sun being thoroughly hidden behind the dense clouds. Still, I’m quite pleased with how many of these turned out.
